Controlled Articular Rotations: Hip in standing with support
Active mobility exercise for the lower extremity, focused on the hip joint
- one hand can be used for support by placing it on a counter-top, grasping a dowel or grasping a secure post
- stand “tall” on one leg without collapsing at the hip or knee
- with the lifted leg, in a slow and controlled manner, move the leg up, then outwards, then down and back to the mid-line, all in a circular fashion
- this movement can be done in both directions (clockwise and counter-clockwise)
- repeat as needed
- NOTE: if one’s balance is adequate, this exercise can be done without support
