Hip abductor recruitment: floor spread in partial squat stance

An exercise to involve more hip abductor control in weight-bearing activities.

  • stand in a partial squat position while maintaining a neutral spine
  • without noticeably shifting or moving your legs, ankles or feet, create a slight outwards force as if you were stretching the carpet sideways with your feet
  • repeat as needed
  • you can incorporate this gentle engagement of hip abductors to other double-leg weight-bearing exercises
