Controlled Articular Rotations: Hip in standing

Active mobility exercise for the lower extremity, focused on the hip joint

  • standing with one foot off the ground, ensuring that you are “standing tall” and not collapsing at the hip
  • in a slow and controlled manner, lift the leg up, then outwards, then down and back to the center, all in a circular fashion
  • this movement can be done in both directions (clockwise and counter-clockwise)
  • repeat as needed
  • NOTE: if one’s balance is poor, this exercise can be done with support
