Lateral shift correction
A self correction exercise to help reduce a lateral shift, which presents itself in some back injuries. Be mindful that correcting a shift may not be ideal if acute/irritable and will not be effective if the cause is structural.
- standing beside a wall, with the side the trunk is shifted towards, beside the wall
- bend the wall-side elbow and rest the side of the arm against the wall, in effect bracing the side of the thorax against the arm against the wall
- on the opposite side of the body, place the other hand on the side of the pelvis
- use this hand to gently glide the pelvis laterally, towards the wall (ie: bringing the pelvis back under the ribcage)
- repeat as needed
