Leg swings: flexion and extension

Active mobility exercise for the lower body, particularly the lumbo-pelvic and hip joints

  • standing with one foot off the ground, and the opposite hand supported on a countertop or holding a pole/dowel
  • gently swing the lifted leg forward and back through the comfortable range
  • this is an active movement, but stay somewhat relaxed and loose throughout the movement
  • repeat as needed
  • NOTE: if one’s balance allows, this exercise can be done without support
