Self release masseters for TMJ dysfunction

A gentle self massage technique for the masseter muscle

  • Palpate (feel) along the ridge of the cheekbone looking for the muscle that’s draped down the posterior part of the cheekbone, travelling down toward the angle (back corner) if the mandible (‘lower jaw)
  • Gently massage forwards and backwards, anywhere throughout the mass of the muscle

  • Can be done gently for temporalis muscle as well
  • repeat as needed
