Side flexion with contralateral rotation stretch for the cervical spine, targets the sternocleidomastoid muscle.

  • sitting or standing with the shoulders relaxed
  • tilt the head to one side and rotate it in the opposite direction, while focusing on elongating the neck
  • the hand opposite the stretch-side can be used to gently add to the stretch, taking care not to add compression to the neck
  • hold and repeat as needed
